Video Conferencing
Parent Page(s): Collaborate Faster, Smarter, BetterMeetings Support
Meet, present, and collaborate with video conferencing.
Video conferencing allows for real-time video and audio communication between multiple users. Most devices have built-in cameras and microphones to make meetings easy and convenient, allowing online meetings to be held in any location using conferencing applications such as Zoom or Teams. However, if you will be in a video conference with multiple participants in the same room as you, in addition to remote participants, we strongly recommend the Owl Meeting Pro camera which captures 360 degrees video and omnidirectional sound. You can borrow an Owl camera from us by submitting an equipment booking form.
Both applications are available to UBC faculty and staff for free. Navigate to the Zoom page to learn more about requesting a licensed UBC Zoom account, which will grant you the features of a full account. For Microsoft Teams, login with your Staff or Faculty CWL account and your firstname.lastname@ubc.ca email account. Navigate to the Microsoft Teams page for more information about accessing Teams for free.

1Meeting Chat Limitations:
– Teams: while you may chat with all members of the meeting, you can only privately chat by locating the user in Teams and messaging them outside of the meeting.
– Compared to Zoom: you may message the entire group, or specific participants within the meeting.
2Recording Limitations:
– Teams: No ability to save a recording locally, instead Teams generates a link to the recording which is hosted on SharePoint or OneDrive. The link will automatically be shared with the participants if the meeting was started within a channel.
